What oib.bg used to be
From 2012 to 2022 this address was the website of United Ideas for Bulgaria (in Bulgarian “Обединени идеи за България”, ОИБ), a youth non-governmental organisation registered as a non-profit association. It described itself as an international network of Bulgarians and a community of ideas that encouraged social engagement and civic projects, and later social entrepreneurship.
Its main project was the annual forum “We are the Ideas” (“Идеите – това сме ние”). Starting in September 2012 at Sofia University, it brought together close to 150 Bulgarian students from Bulgaria and abroad every year. Over four days they worked in thematic teams on technology, economics, culture, science, education, the environment and the urban environment, and each team was expected to design a civic project and carry it out afterwards.
Other projects included a practical course in social entrepreneurship at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of Sofia University, run from 2017 with the Rinker Center for Entrepreneurship and Training; a 24-hour student hackathon, Innovation Academy 2018, held with Innovation Starter at the National Palace of Culture in Sofia; and smaller volunteer initiatives such as visits to homes for older people.
What this site is now
Social Ideas (“Социални идеи”) is a new, independent editorial project. A small team based in Sofia relaunched the domain in October 2026. We are not United Ideas for Bulgaria and have no connection with the association. We do not organise forums, courses or hackathons, and we do not accept registrations, memberships or donations.
We write in Bulgarian about social entrepreneurship and social innovation in Bulgaria: the law on social enterprises, funding, legal forms, design thinking, and the history of youth civic projects. Pages that other websites link to were restored at their old addresses with new texts written by us from archived copies and public sources, which are listed under every page. We do not publish names, photos or contact details of people from the old site.
The English text on this page is a summary. Everything else on the site, including the history of the forum, the course and the other projects of the old organisation, is in Bulgarian. Most browsers can translate a page automatically if you need it in another language.
